What Exactly Is A Rehabilitation Center?
A rehabilitation center is designed as a place to help a person recuperate and heal enough to return home. They are typically the perfect place for a patient after they have had a medical procedure done and are too weak to care for themselves at home. Keep in mind, they are not nursing homes. You are not expected to live out the rest of your life in a rehabilitation facility. The trained professional's goal is to get you strong enough to be able to return back home and to your daily activities. They often have a team of trained, skilled nurses who set up a personalized recovery plan for you. They have physical and occupational therapists, nurses, nurse’s assistants, pharmacists and many others to help you on your way to recovery. They also have a dietitian who prepares fresh, healthy meals for all of the residents. Rehabilitation centers usually have many perks that nursing homes do not have such as engaging social activities, transportation, and therapeutic activities that aim to incorporate different types of exercises to aid in the recovery process. These activities can include swimming, water aerobics, bike riding, hiking, and yoga just to name a few.
Aside from the exceptional medical care that a resident receives, it is also a wonderful place for socializing. Many friendly like-minded people are often going through the same types of recovery. Therefore there is a network of support amongst the residents. Payment often weighs heavily on patients so they may not want to consider a rehabilitation center. However, most of them do accept Medicare. They also accept cash payment and are willing to set up a payment plan for those that qualify. This takes a lot of the stress off of the patient when worrying about how they can afford such a place.
